Mescal Agave

This graphite pencil rendering of the mescal agave plant growing on a wild hillside in Mexico is from a poster series I created showcasing Native American poems and oral traditions about native plants: "Singing Down Roots, Plant Folklore of the Desert Southwest." This drawing depicts the agave plant with a Yaqui Deer Song in th eoriginal language with a translation into English, and an essay by Larry Evers and Felipe Molina called "The Mescal Agave Talks Like That."
